Gads I am in a pissy mood now. I am surprised that my mood can turn on the vagaries of small happenstances. But there you have it. A happenstance smally happened and now I'm in a vile mood. Argh.

I need to go bell the dog. Again. More. (She finally stopped whizzing around and fell down, dead asleep. I tried to take the collar off her, thinking the whizzing might be because she did NOT like it, but no, she likes it. She fought me tooth and nail until I left it on her. Then she whizzed around some more and fell down, dead asleep. Again. Silly pooch.)

My dog Keegan is a freak. I just got out her holiday decoration. Yes, that's right. The dog has a special red/white striped fuzzy collar with a bell on it. She went ballistic when she saw it. Started jumping squealing and running in circles. She finally settled down enough to put her head through the opening (yeah, the dog "dresses" herself cuz I'm too slow). Then started prancing. And then, then ... then she was *off*. It's been a full three minutes and she hasn't stopped yet. Circles around the living room, around the dining table, around my legs (dangerous). Just around and around and around. She so adores her dress-up clothes. Oy.

Subject:Wednesday is Friday

Mood: busy

So it's Wednesday, meaning it's practice day. Given that I have the next two days off, it's also Friday. Naturally, the workspace is tomb-like today. That's a good thing really. I do have something I need to send to the boss today, but it's mostly done and I'm not being pressured to do much of anything else right now. I'll have another three-day week next week.

Regarding practice, I asked the crew a few weeks ago if they wanted to practice this Wednesday and next Wednesday, since they were so close to the holidays. Most of the crew said yes, they wanted to practice and that they'd be there. So, I'll be there. I will be trying to keep it relatively short, because it gets cold these days, but I feel obligated to go. It is my practice after all.

Got less done in the garage last night than I'd hoped, but progress was made on most fronts. Found what I needed to find and will be able to finish the box in the very near future. I intend to spend a lot of time in the garage over the long weekend, because that's a gift to myself. I will also be making a trip out to the Moreno Valley mall on Saturday or Sunday. They've finished fixing my gauche.

So, made progress on all fronts in the garage last night. The box is within an evening of being done. The gauntlets made some progress, but that one's going to take a lot of work, so I don't expect to finish it soon. Did a bit of sanding on the nightstand Maedb wanted to paint. It turns out the finish that was on there wasn't paint friendly. I got the big surfaces with the belt sander, gonna take out the 1/3 sheet sander for the bigger inner spaces. Then the smaller spaces will be done by hand with a sanding block. Should be done by Thursday about noon, best guess.

As always, it feels good to complete a project and take it off the list. Some of these have been hanging around for years, others were added only days ago. Still, it feels good. What I haven't done in a long time is take one of the big home improvement projects off the list. That may have to wait for the weather to warm up anyway. Next on that list are replacing the garage door and its opener and replacing the three front windows on the house. Both of those will require money.

Subject:What a day
Security:Public

Yes, it's a Monday, and my opinions of those days will seemingly never change. It's a day of atonement, even if I've done nothing to atone for. Odds are good that I fell asleep somewhere around Jamie's rising for the day (this morning was no exception. 6:30 or so). Every moment is filled with pain. Now that is an adventure all to itself since the pain will radiate to someplace unexpected and then manifest in some way unexpected. I take a step, feel my lower back give and wait to see what happens. Will I find myself sitting on the floor, or maybe with wet pants, maybe a toe cramp that curls my entire lower leg. Maybe it will simply be a hot knife working down my leg, or that lovely tingly pins and needles. With every step, mind you. So Mondays pretty much suck.

Except today. First and foremost it's Solstice. It's the day where I can begin to see light at the end of the tunnel. It's a day full of hope and promise - maybe more so than any other day of the year. It has always amused me that the fullest day is also the sparsest. It's the middle of winter, no light from the sun, no plants or leaves or blooms anywhere. Sometimes I imagine that it's the lack of physical elements in the surroundings that make room for the emotional and spiritual stuff. Anyway ...

My daughter called this morning. We talked for a good 15-20 minutes and not a single "gimme" the whole time. We talked. Just talked. No complaining or whining or asking for money. It was wonderful and ...

A friend stopped over for a little while. We've been so taken up with "projects" that the only time I seem to see her is when my serger is needed, or something like that. I don't begrudge it, I just miss our do-nothing times. This morning was one such do-nothing. We just chatted for a few minutes before she had to head out. And then ...

An insurance screw-up got fixed, and I didn't know how heavily it was weighing on me. We own two homes (well, one home and one "shed"). They both need insurance policies and I got it in my head the due dates were the same. That would have been fine had I paid them both on the sooner date. Nope, I paid them on the later date, which was after one of them had been cancelled (for nonpayment duh). They sent me a refund Friday afternoon, too late for responses even though I had a number of phone messages everywhere. I was without insurance coverage all weekend. I felt horrible about it, but nothing could be done. I got up this morning to a phone message that it was all okay and we had been reinstated. Whew!

Then UPS delivered a gift to a friend of mine. hehehe The super secret project can now be unveiled. It warmed me to my very core that my friend enjoyed the present. I had such joy in creating it. Yup, it was time for a little chairdancing even with the pain =grin= I adore making things for other people so very much.

It was just such a glorious day. Just glorious.

Happy Solsctice everyone.

Subject:Busy Weekend

Mood: busy

So, I spent all weekend working in the garage (mostly) and the house (a little). Did some laundry, finished the lucets, made good progress on the box, finished most of the dice, started working on a bunch of gauntlets that need to be repaired and had been waiting on the floor of the garage for months. Moved the spears from the living room to the bedroom and remounted them. Did a little cleaning and still found time to go to dinner with Maedb last night and enjoy the evening.

I'm getting a bunch of older projects going and out of the way, so I can reclaim my workspace. I had cut out the panels for 5 boxes months ago and started building one of them. It got stalled, so I started another. It got stalled too. Well, over the weekend I almost finished number two. (Number one requires that I find a tool, so I can cut the pieces I need without losing fingers in the process.) The gauntlets have been on the floor and in the way for months, so those need to get done and out of the way. Somehow--I'm not sure how, I have five gauntlets there. Two are my old ones, two belong to a friend who asked me to fix them (I agreed without thinking about how long it would be before I got to them), but I have no idea where the fifth gauntlet came from or who it belongs to.

So, stack o' boxes being reduced, gauntlets being done, the next project on the list will probably be those bowls I was making or the knife blanks left lying in the way so I wouldn't forget them. Either that, or my Lady will give me another set of priorities entirely. We'll see.

I've been having *such* good days the past few. So last night it's starting to catch up with me and I take a percoset. Just one. Only they keep me up at night and I have to take them with benedryl. I dozed a bit here and there and was up every three hours with the itching. Sigh. But the back didn't hurt! And Watcher slept cuddled up with me (washing me every now and again). So it was a peaceful night if not a restful one.

Today I was so tired I could hardly move, though, and the back is pissed off at me something fierce. Yanno what, though? It was worth it to feel as though I *did* something.

(Besides the stuff I've already written about, I have also folded and stacked by color all my quilt stash, including the fat quarters. And Leslie's black borders are almost done - all I have left is a bit of handwork. Hey, Sles, geometric or paisley?)

I haven't settled in to read much the past couple of weeks. Maybe I'll take my ice cold bottle of water and a couple of Advil (instead of percoset - maybe it will bring it down to a dull roar). And a book and a flashlight. And I will read in bed, with my fresh flannel sheets, furry cats, quilts on my walls, and clean furniture. Doesn't that sound like a slice of heaven to you? It does to me!

I got distracted and never announced the open garage, so I guess I won't do it today. There's one person storing projects in my garage who does need to be here and get to work on them. I want them out of my garage soon, they're cramping my style. :-)

I'm very close to finishing the last bunch of lucets. I only have two more on the sanding stack. I've been making good progress on that other project I've been talking about. I didn't get the holes punched for the spaulders, but that'll happen soon (this weekend). I started working on the box I was almost done with again. I'm getting there with it.

So tonight is going to be chores and what not. We have to get groceries, we're out of coffee entirely (as I realized just this morning). I got the litter boxes upstairs cleaned last night. The house is looking pretty good. I've even been keeping up pretty well on the dishes.

Got bits and pieces cleaned up and put where they belong (upstairs stuff up and downstairs stuff down). Sewed on a long-overdue wedding quilt. Took a shower!!!! Crocheted a bit. Reorganzied the closet.

Not bad for two days, eh?

I'm tired now. hehehe

So, I got the spots marked for the holes in the straps for the spaulders (shoulder armor). Had a good practice with only a couple of people there. One is a new guy, the other is back after spending two years in the marines and getting a medical discharge. It was a good practice.

Took some packages to the post office before hand. Saw Santa driving through the neighborhood. did some running about, all before practice. Dinner was a couple of small slices of rye toast with peanut butter at about 10pm.

Strangely, not very hungry this morning, though I did get up late.

As in, I had one. Took the trash out, did the grocery shopping, watched the first half of "Alice" w/ Maedb, then went out into the garage and made more progress on stuff. All good things.

Tonight is practice and it looks like there will only be a couple of us out there, which is fine. I'm hoping to get some help with fitting the shoulders for my armor and getting that project completed. I'm also hoping for a relatively short night, cause 1) it gets cold out there these days and 2) it'd be nice to get some work done at home afterward. Wouldn't it be slick if I could finish another lucet tonight?

Anyway. I have a Dr's appointment this morning and the company party tomorrow. I also have the open garage thing this Saturday, assuming it's not rainy. I don't expect a lot of takers, but there might be a few people here. I do need to announce it online at least.

So, I got my teeth cleaned today. The hygenist thanked me for taking such good care of my teeth. It made her job easier & quicker, which made up for the fact that she got stuck in traffic and was late for the appointment. In spite of my care, I have two tiny cavities, so I'm gonna get them filled next week. Should be relatively quick and easy.

I finished two lucets last night and made good progress on another project, just not one that has been on my list. I need to maintain the momentum. There are only four more lucets to be finished. That reduces the amount of time I spend on them and lets me turn my attention to other projects. This is a very good thing.

Tonight, I must go shopping. We're out of kitty food. We also need some human food. Tomorrow is practice. I have to remember to bring the new shoulder armor and associated pieces. I need to measure and poke holes in the straps so everything fits right. It'll work best if I do it at practice, so I can get some help.

With the rain coming through, the event on Saturday was postponed. Spent Friday evening moving furniture and cleaning. Spent Saturday mostly in the garage, where I made excellent progress on a few projects. Then spent much of the rest of the day watching movies with my Lady. I also baked cookies--lotsa cookies.

Sunday started back out in the garage, where I tried my hand at something gift-related. It worked out far better than I had expected, which is a good thing. I also made good progress on the lucets. They're going to be finished soon, which will let me concentrate on other projects for a couple of months, then I'll need to return to lucet making in time for next summer.

On the bad news side, my car is demanding a sacrifice to the gods of automotive mechanics. The "check engine" light is on. I hate that light. It tells you something is wrong, but gives you no clue what it might be. It could be something as simple as a new air filter, or it could be a major repair. Sigh.

Tonight is busy, I have a dentist visit tomorrow and a check up with the Dr. who last cut my head open on Wednesday. Office party on Thursday.

I found the camera! The key was someone (I forget who, but I owe you, bigtime) reminding me that I had it at the quilt show. Then someone else (yeah, I forget that person, too!) said to check the car, the purse, and all those places. I tracked back in my mind and remembered that we had a bag because I bought a pack of fat quarters (coffee cup patterns). So where was that bag? On the stairs, waiting to be taken up and put away. (That's an oops in itself.) Yup - in the bag was the camera. It's on the charger now so tomorrow or the next day I should be able to get the photos off of there, and take a couple of new ones. It just happened. For the first time this year, I received a personal e-mail from someone extolling the War on Christmas hype. I was a good girl. Sort of. My reply:

And a merry Christmas to you, too. You can keep the Christ in Christmas, and I can keep the soul in Solstice. That way, we both share in the wonderful holiday spirit that happens with both our faiths.

Now I'm second-guessing myself. It's just that this is such a wonderful holiday season, with big marker days for a number of religions and faiths and churches. Can't we all just get along? Jeezo-pete, there's so much more that we can argue about, yanno?

PS - no comments about keeping the "huh" in Hannukah. Or the "whaaa" in Kwanza. That's cuz I don't know much about either of those holidays, and we're a punny lot. I thought I'd nip it in the bud, okay?

I don't know where I got it into my head that I can't sing. I just remembered - I was in the choir at the church where I grew up. (That would be a Presbyterian Church somewhere in San Diego.) I remember that I forgot a word during a performance and the whole choir shut down. That's when I first learned that I was a leader of sorts. They were following me (and I didn't know it), so when I stopped singing, they did too. And my favorite song was that one that goes Glo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ria in Excelsis Deo.

Cool - another memory from my childhood! Woo-hoo!

I got up this morning and didn't even come down the stairs. I stayed up there and lounged a bit, put some stuff away, sorted some stuff, lounged a bit more, then finally came on downstairs and joined the world. Only to find out two things. Jess called. To borrow money, of course. Jamie talked to her (no phone upstairs, lucky me). It's for a prescription. Really. (fyi - it is *always* for medicine, always always always don't believe a word of it. anymore) I'm not calling her back. I figure I'll call her back if she ever calls here and *doesn't* want money, yanno? And then I log into my e-mail. You know that gift exchange with the preemie charity I was talking about? Grams (the lady in charge, sweet as all get out, but definitely a bit on the ditzy side) forgot to tell me that my giftee begged off because she's moving and now I'm making something for Grams instead. Argh! I already finished the other lady's gift, so she's getting it. And gladly! But now I need to do something handmade for Grams. Dammit. I have no ideas yet. Dammit.

I think I'll go step outside again. I almost always step out my front door when I come downstairs in the morning. Just to see what the day is like. Today I was hit with clean and fresh earthy smells and a sunbeam. It was warm and wonderful.

After I soak that up again, I need to lie down for awhile.

Jeezo-pete my sleep schedule is screwed up something fierce. Not America's Next Top Model "fierce" either. Was it last week or the one before that I didn't go to bed Monday night, slept from Tuesday night until Friday, then totally skipped bed that Friday night. I am trying desperately to avoid a repeat - I don't have time for that kind of sleep marathon. Besides, I cannot imagine it being healthy. But last night I finally got to bed at 5:00 am. Fell asleep sometime after that and woke at 10 this morning. I spent the day fighting not to fall asleep (afraid I'd sleep my day away). I'm so tired my eyelids are grainy, yanno? So what do I do? Skip sleep tonight. Not for want of trying, either! Here it is 5 am ... again ... and I'm going to try once more to see if my brain will shut off so I can sleep a bit.

On the upside, though, I got quite a bit done on the Sam and Liz project (wedding quilt). (I try to sleep until I just can't take it anymore and get up for a little while - repeating ad infinitum through the night.) I am really happy with how that's turning out. The quilt, not the repetition.

I also got a couple of now-finished projects scanned. If I can find the darned camera, I'll take photos before they go out in the mail later today. btw - I'm narrowing it down (with a little help from my friends). I had the camera at the quilt show, exactly one month ago. Anyone remember what I was wearing that day? It's not in the purse, or the med bag, or the project bag.
